El blog de Ms. Jeans: Against the Dream Act?
In the news and on social networks ive seen Americans, including Mexican Americans, born and raised in the U.S , against The Dreamers ACT!
Feeling that giving undocumented children an education is unfair and something they aren’t entitled to have, And According to Syndicated columnist Ruben Navarrette they are " asking for a handout"
This country was the place founded on immigrants who came to reach for their dreams .. Everyone is a descendant of an immigrant.
Why has that changed in the minds of People born and raised in the U.S ?
The Drop out rates, the Teen pregnancies, Drug use, Crime rates and the poverty that is a reality here in San Antonio is proof that the entitlement is not coming from undocumented workers but rather from those very people who have a social security number and American rights .. So, many Latinos born and raised in the U.S choose to not to get higher Education. Alot feel that their parents or government should support them.. w/ food stamps, Welfare, housing etc. The jails are filled with Latinos born and raised here in the U.S for selling or using drug and/or committing crimes rather than bettering themselves and our people. Just throwing it all away!! The message of entitlement comes from those who choose to drop out of life, when they have every American right to live the "American Dream" yet have an issue when the right is given to someone who is more appreciative of Education we all take for granted. Rights and choices we all take for granted.
Furthermore, this education comes with a price .. a Dollar price of course. This isn’t a hand out as College/Universities are more expensive for the undocumented Dreamers. Many will not be able to take advantage of the Dreamers Act due to still not having enough money to enroll.
My message or rather my point is .. Too many people are worried about what the next person has, or what the next person is doing. When there are so many opportunities that we all have, things we are ungrateful for, things we all take for granted.. Take a good look at what you are doing for yourselves, things you are doing to better your family , Our people .. instead of focusing on what you don’t have or don’t receive. There are some people who love to be in the position as you, would love to go to college! All im saying is don’t knock down the next person for doing something ,while you sit around and waste your opportunities. Take full advantage of your opportunities, don’t let them slip!! If you were born and raised in the U.S and never attended college .. just know that you still have a choice to work hard, sacrifice, and push yourself to a Higher learning. Remember to use your rights and chase your dreams .. because, We are All Dreamers afterall…
